Transformer Main Tank DGA 1Specifying a Transformer Main Tank DGA Monitor

For the past 23 years, LORD Consulting has developed and applied its own IP in the discipline of well implemented on-line main tank DGA monitoring to clients Australasian-wide, with excellent success in the overall risk minimisation to strategic transformers.

Although there is a wide range of devices offered as ‘transformer DGA monitors’ they are by no means equal in capability or performance. Certain devices marketed today are unsuited to the role and this should concern our Industry. It is truly a case of ‘buyer beware’ and, here too, the old adage ‘you get what you pay for’ very much applies to the purchase and successful deployment of these devices.

Morgan Schaffer Calisto 1

A simple and reliable solution for monitoring transformer fleets cost effectively. The monitor measures dissolved hydrogen with unequalled stability at low concentrations, making it ideal for detecting incipient transformer faults at their earliest stage. Calisto offers additional value through on-line monitoring of moisture in oil. Used in conjunction with Morgan Schaffer portable analysers or laboratory analysis services, Calisto provides outstanding value for protecting your transformer assets.

Morgan Schaffer Calisto 2

Because hydrogen is the early indicator of all transformer faults, Morgan Schaffer created the Calisto and Calisto 2 to measure low-level dissolved hydrogen with exceptional accuracy and stability. Both monitors provide additional value with on-line moisture readings. A highly popular model in the Australasian region, the Calisto 2 also monitors dissolved carbon monoxide, a gas often generated when transformer cellulose overheats, providing a more complete picture of the transformer behaviour. Calisto and Calisto 2 are supplied standard with numerous connection options and DNP3.0 and MODBUS communication protocols to allow easy deployment within existing communications and SCADA networks.  The Calisto 2 features a unique architecture allowing optional fast swap-over to the multi-gas Calisto 5 or 9 monitor in the event of a significant fault being detected.
